Would he have purchased a computer with this CPU or paid the price he did? It's news to absolutely no one that CPUs are differentiated into a wide variety of differently priced tiers based on performance(in systems with little thermal constraint) or performance within a given wattage(for laptops). The statement is actually quite plausible if read literally:ĭo we really think that Garcia would have just shrugged and not bought a computer? No, seems unlikely. They can, and should, do better and nothing less than a cash payout will result in them paying proper attention to security moving forward. While I'd take a credit towards my next purchase it would need to be something I could combine on one purchase from each of my affected Intel CPUs or I'll opt out and sue them personally in small claims. I honestly don't think there's a huge financial impact on me but on my main rig it's more than minimal since i use VMs a lot and a performance hit there is not trivial. A cash payout would be just that, even if it's a dollar per CPU.įull disclosure, I have half a dozen Intel CPUs running right now in PCs in my home, not counting my Macbook Pro and however many may be in non-computer devices (unlikely I'd guess). While we all make mistakes, companies like Intel don't learn until and unless they're forced to take a major financial hit. Clearly AMD managed to get it right more so than Intel despite significantly fewer resources. Intel knew, or should have known, better. Click to expand.Honestly while this is the likeliest outcome, I am hoping for a situation more like the RAM price fixing settlement.
